We're ready for warmer weather this month at the PRC!

A look at what's coming up this March at the Nonnie Hood Parent Resource Center.

If this week's storm is any indication, March has decided to come in like a lion. Let’s just hope it leaves like a lamb so we can start looking forward to nicer weather!

March is another busy month at the PRC, and there is plenty to celebrate. In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, we’ll have themed decorations around the center and many of the month’s crafts are based on works of the famed children’s author. We’ll also be having some special St. Patrick’s Day surprises when the holiday approaches, so keep an eye out!

To start the sensory table this month, staffers Julie Waltz-Stalker and Angela Smith put together a fun Green Eggs and Ham themed play-set, complete with spatulas and felt green eggs and ham. Be sure to stop by and check it out; we think you’ll like it, Sam I Am.

We’re also excited to announce that our calendar has moved to a Google Calendar format, meaning you can easily add it to your personal calendar or sync it with any number of other services. Additionally, you can always download and print your own calendar designed by our Center Manager, Amanda Stuart.

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead an hour on March 11!

Here’s a look at what we have coming up this month at the PRC. For more information check out our calendar or Facebook events:

On Wednesday, March 7, the Science & Discovery Center will be here to teach us about graphing. If you’ve never been to a session with the Science & Discovery Center, now is the perfect time to try it out! Their hands-on approach to learning math and science is as fun as it is educational.

Every Tuesday, don't forget to stop by after Story Time with Miss Sue at the Southeast Stueben County Library for related crafts and activities!

Also on Wednesday, March 7, the Conscious Discipline Book Study kicks off with Karen Sweeney. This reading and deep dive into Dr. Becky A. Bailey’s book “Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline” will give you the tools to help you and your child through the often difficult journey of childhood. You’ll learn about interactive songs and activities to promote emotional development, encouragement,  empathy, positive intent, and so much more! This is a four-week class every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and pre-registration is required so call us soon to reserve your spot.

The wonderful Jen Carlson will be back with her Music Development class on Thursday, March 8! Join us for an hour of music aimed at pre-school aged children to shape and grow standard development skills such as communication, cognitive, social, motor, and language functions! She’s always a hit with all kids, no matter how outgoing or shy. Everyone is welcome, but pre-registration is required.

If you missed the first Me Time of March last week, you’ll have another chance on Thursday, March 15! Drop your little ones off for two and a half hours of childcare with Miss Amanda and Miss Julie – perfect to get those mid-week errands done or just to get some quiet time at home while your kids play, socialize, and make fun take-home crafts!

After a couple cancellations due to snowy weather, our own Julie Waltz-Stalker is excited to host another Micro Angelos class on Wednesday, March 21. This messy bit of fun will be gravity painting, which is exactly what it sounds like – painting with gravity! Not only will kids get the fun of dripping paint all over the paper and floor (with a tarp, of course), but they’ll be learning about gravity itself with the book “Gravity” by Jason Chin. No pre-registration is required, just drop in and get painting.

The Science & Discovery Center will be back on Wednesday, March 21, for a lesson on buoyancy! Will it sink or will it float? You’ll have to stop in and find out!

The only Kids Night In of the month will be on Friday, March 23. Three hours of childcare on a Friday night with staffers Matt Lyons and Julie Waltz-Stalkerz – what could be better? Drop your kids off at the PRC and enjoy a night out on Market Street.

We are very excited to announce that Kelly Sidari is bringing back the popular Music & Movement to the PRC starting on Tuesday, March 27, at 4:00 p.m! You’ve probably already heard of all the fun that is had at Kelly’s events, but if you haven’t, get ready for dancing, dinosaurs, and a whole lot of laughs!

Please also note that the PRC will be opening late on Thursday, March 29, as the staff holds a quarterly team day to improve and better serve families in our community.
