Overview

Flexible Families: Parenting Through Separation and Divorce is a fully virtual, five-hour course facilitated over two 2.5-hour sessions on Microsoft Teams. This class is offered free of charge and pre-registration is required.

The goal of Flexible Families is to reduce the impact and long-term effects of divorce or separation on children by teaching their parents how to navigate conflict without putting their children in the middle, utilizing research-based practices.

All participates receive a Certification of Completion at the end of the class. Facilitated by Vicki Eichenlaub.

Our approach

Flexible Families is based on the A.C.T. (Assisting Children through Transition) curriculum. A trained class facilitator uses presentations, group exercises, videos and discussion to create a safe, private space for parents to learn and discuss.

Class topics include...

  • The emotional experience of separation and divorce for parents and children

  • Building a strong and healthy parent-child relationship

  • How to help children adjust and manage their anger

  • How to reduce conflict and keep kids out of the middle

  • Tools for parenting apart (problem solving, communication, etc.)

  • Understanding the legal process (custody, visitation, child support, etc.) and its effect on children Local resources for families.
